Guitar Music Notes and Its Equivelent Beats

Guitar Music Notes and how to approach the beats the counts is important in developing sight reading skills. Sight reading is a very useful skill to develop. There are a lot of interesting materials out there and it will help, if you develop your sight reading skills. We will begin with the eight notes.


Eight Notes

Refresher two eight notes equal one quarter note and eight notes are counted as 1+, 2+ etc. Quarter notes are counted as 1 2 3 4.

In the 1st measure observe the signs for the down-up strokes. The counting 1+ 2+ 3+ 4+ for the group of eight notes.

In the 1st measure, the 1st four music notes are all eight notes, then there is a Quarter note and two eight notes.In counting eight notes notes note that all the in beats will fall on counts 1,2,3,4, and are called down beats. The +'s are all counted on the up beats. It would be best to count out the beats loudly and when you know the rhythm, then count the beats and play and play the notes.

In measure 1 the signs above the notes signify that you pick the note with a down stroke the V sign signifies an up stroke.

In measure 2 the sign is called an accent which means to attack the note a little stronger.

Try counting and playing measure 1-3 and get the feel of the rhythm fo the music notes. When you count the eight notes make surethat you properly count the 1+ 2+ 3+ 4+ . Try it out and space the counting 1+ 2+ 3+ 4+ or down up, down up, down up.

Referring to the pdf chart, in the 1st measure, there are two groups of eight notes in C, 1st four notes beamed together forms one group and next four notes the 2nd group of eight notes.

The 2nd measure has four D notes and four E notes.

In the third measure there are four G notes and four A notes all played as eight notes.

Measure 4 has two B notes a C and a D note followed by four E notes.

Measure 5 has two F notes and 6 G notes.

Measure 6 has two F notes and an E note followed by two eight note rests then followed by a D, C and a B note.

Measure 7 has an eight note rest then an eight A note followed by a quarter note G then an eight note G,followed by an quarter note E then a C quarter note.

Measure 8 has 4 eight notes, three D notes and a G, followed by a quarter note G then another quarter note C.

Go over this exercise of guitar music notes and concentrate on the counting of beats and the execution of the notes.

Guitar Music Notes and Drills:

A dot placed after a note increases its value by half. A dotted quarter note gets 1,&1/2 counts. A quarter note tied to an eight note also gets 1,1/2 counts.When tapping your foot for a dotted quarter note count, down, down and play the note on the up beat of two.

Measure 1 begins with a G dotted quarter note and is held for 1,1/2 counts and on the up beat of two the other G note is played. The next G note is also a dotted quarter note,and is held for 1,1/2 beats and on the up beat of two the other G is played

Measure 2 has a quarter note tied to an eight note it is held for 1,1/2 counts and on the up beat of two, the G note is played. On beat 3 there is a quarter note tied to an eight note,it is held for 1,1/2 beats and on the up beat of 4+ the G note is played.

Measure 3 has a G quarter note on the 1st beat, followed by a G eight note on the 2nd beat and an eight up beat note tied to a quarter note held for 1,1//2 beats and a G quarter note on the 4th beat

Measure 4 starts with 4 eight notes and two quarter notes.

Measure 5 has a dotted quarter note followed by an eight note tied to a quarter note, an eight note rest then a G eight note.

Measure 6 has an eight note rest followed by an eight note tied to a quarter note held for 1,1/2 beats and then a quarter note.

Measure 7 has two eight notes followed by an eight note rest, then an eight note, another eight note rest then an eight note tied to a quarter note.

Measure 8 has an eight note followed by a quarter note then an eight note tied to a half note.

Summary of guitar music notes:

Take note of the different types of dotted notes be aware of the lengths of these notes. Count a loud 1,2,3,4, and feel the in and up beats. This will help you to get a steady pulse.The drills are for you to practice the rhythms and the pulse of the music.
