Christmas Guitar Tabs

Christmas guitar tabs are written for the aspiring guitar player whose preference is in reading tabs. If you are a beginner and need to learn the basics of guitar tabs go to the lesson on Guitar Tablature This guitar tablature lesson will give you the basic fundamentals of acquiring the theory on it. I have put ten Christmas melodies for you to choose from, these Christmas songs are well known and it will be a treat to have the family and friends sing this melodies with the basic guitar accompaniment.

From these Christmas guitar tabs I have chosen Joy To The World as an example to work on. This melody is in the key of DMajor. I have used a lot of triads to spice up the chord changes.

Learning the chords by heart will give you a bigger repertoire to fall back on.

Beginning on bar 1, the notes are placed around the 11th,10th positions on the fret-board. The first chord is a D, A, G triad over a D note followed with a DMaj7 and Emi chords.On bar 2, The notes are placed along the 2-7 positions. The chords are D, A7 and D. Bar 3 has a G and A7 chord positions used are from the 5-12 frets.Bar4 has a D, and a Gmi/D chord, the positions used are 3-12. Bar5 has a D chord, the positions on the fret-board are from the 2-11 frets. Bar6 also has a D chord,

Positions used are from the 2-11 frets. Bar7 has a A, G and D chords, positions are from the 2-7 frets. Bar8 has an A7 chord, positions are from 0-6 frets.In bar9 the chords D, G and D are used and the positions are from 2-11 frets. In the last bar, the chords D, A7 and D are played and the positions are from 0-5 frets.

The Triads like A/D, G/D, DMaj7, Gmi/D, give a nice tone color to the chords. Shift these chords chromatically up and down the fret-board and note their positions for use in future songs.

Some of the positions and chords may be a little difficult but with practice you will definitely improve. The feel of the song can be worked out according to how you perceive the melody.The highest fret used is in the 12th position and the lowest used is the A of the 5th open string.
